Next generation computer is coming next year!

Posted on September 20th, 2007 in hardware, news by Ankit Duseja

Next generation of computers are in development. I just got a quick round up on the configuration of these computers. Here is what I found.

The following configuration will exist in the next generation computers:
1. Processors upgrade:
AMD is soon releasing the triple-core processors. He have plans to beat the existing Intel’s dual-core & quad-core technology with this one. These core processors will really do well in the age of future computing.

2. Intel’s New 32nm chip technology:
The all new 32 nm Nehalem chip architecture has been developed by Intel in which each die incorporates around 1.9 billion transistor in a single chip. The 32nm chips use the advanced high-k and metal gate transistor technology which helps in improving power efficiency and at the same time reduces leakage.

The first Nehalem products are expected to release in the second half of 2008 and by 2009 Intel will start mass manufacturing of chips with 32nm fabrication process.(via)

3. High Speed USB 3.0:
Intel, Microsoft, HP & a bunch of other companies have joined hands to build the next generation data transfer technique. It will be 10x faster than the current one (i.e. 4.8 GB per second). Now that’s amazing.

4. Terabyte drives:
The terabyte drives are already out in market, nut are very costly. We can expect a drop in their prices in 2008.

5. DDR3 RAM

6. New Formats:
Certain new format or the formats of future are now in existence. HDTV & Blu-ray formats will really change the way of entertainment.

7. High Definition Screens:
New formats require new screens too. Giving a quality at 72 fps is not a joke & it can not be handled by existing one’s. But new HD screens can support them.

8. New Super drives:
The HD & Blu-ray drives are on its way. New formats badly needs them as huge size files can’t come on the currently running DVD’s. The Blu-ray can handle upto 50GB of data on a single disk.

The future technology is totally inter-dependent on each other. So, if you are thinking to buy a one time computer for your house & want to spend on it as one time investment, I recommend you to wait for one year or so.
