Posted on November 5th, 2007 in gadgets, news, software by Ankit Duseja

Android, just start remembering this word, as it is soon going to be one of the popular Mobile OS in coming months. Google today finally killed the GPhone rumors with this announcement of Android. Google is not getting into the production of handsets but into the development of Operating System for mobiles (phones) in the upcoming handsets.

Just a few minutes after Google killed the GPhone rumor on Google Blog, a splash hit the blogsphere. Every technology blog finally ended the hope of GPhone except the washingtonpost. They are still insisting that Google might launch a GPhone next year.

Google has tied up with HTC, Sprint, T-Mobile, Intel, NVIDIA, Motorola, Qualcom, eBay & the list goes on and on. To be exact there are 30 companies including Google in this Open Handset Alliance Project. These companies will try to launch new handsets bundled with Android in the mid of year 2008. However, the SDK (Software Development Kit) kit for developers is expected to arrive on 12 November 2007.

A nice step from Google to beat the Microsoft & other popular leaders in the mobile industry. The mobiles consisting of Android will be cheaper than other as these companies will not have to pay any amount for the OS. Google’s step in Mobile market is going to help a lot of users & companies.

Well for sure, Android will be arriving with the Google Services. Well Google has hinted about integrating Google Maps, Gmail, Google Reader, & why not their main soul - The Search. They have also tied up with Nuance (the maker of Dragon Naturally Speaking Software) to include voice recognition in their upcoming OS. The other surprise is Android will be capable of performing Voice Based Search.

OK i read about this news on blogsphere, what’s special here?
Well, Google’s Android & Mozilla Firefox Mobile browser is arriving nearly at the same time. As of the current Google-Firefox deals, there is a very strong probability that Android will surely be bundled up with the Mozilla Firefox Mobile Version. Now thats really amazing! isn’t it?

Hey hey but wait, don’t get too excited. If you are planning for a expensive long time investment phone & if you are keen fan of Google products, you will have to wait till Mid 2008 as Google will not be leaking out its new software for old Mobiles. By doing this Google will be able to keep a track on actual space of Android in the market. However Android will be free, but will not support old handsets.
