In today’s era, most of the people have got advanced notebooks and computer but still there are people who suffer while performing tasks on the computer. Thus here is a short trick for them explaining how you can speed up* (run multiple programs at once on) your old (low RAM) computers without spending a single penny.

*TIP: Virtual memory does not speed up your computer but it allows to run more applications at once. This means you can run multiple applications but it all goes slowly. More is explained below with a video tutorial which teaches you How to increase virtual memory of a computer.

What is virtual memory and how does it actually works?
Many of you might be knowing about RAM (Random Access memory). It holds the data of the currently running applications but a if it is of very low size you cannot perform multiple task easily at a time. Virtual Memory is just like a file on your hard disk. Now what the Virtual Memory actually does is obtains the data from CPU and stores it in itself. The work of CPU here is to check that if any part of RAM that has not been used since some time it transfers the data to Virtual Memory, thus cleaning the space on RAM for other applications.

Animation Source: Howstuffworks

However writing the data to hard disk is much slower than writing data to RAM. Thus what virtual memory will actually do is it will allow you to run more applications but it will not offer you speed. You may feel the slowness while switching the application, as the data has to be again fetched from Virtual Memory into the RAM for further use.

Well you actually don’t need to understand all the above for increasing Virtual Memory of your system but I mentioned this because its good to have knowledge of what you are actually doing.

Increasing the virtual memory.
So let’s begin with increasing the virtual memory of your computer. Follow the simple steps below but if you still can’t understand what is happening just watch the video attached to this post.

Right click on the computer and select properties.

Click on Advanced system settings.

Under performance section click “Settings”.

Now select the Advanced Tab.

Under the “Virtual Memory” section click on “Change”.

Now uncheck the box yelling “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”.

Now select the Hard drive which you want to use for virtual memory.

Select the “Custom Size” radio button.

Specify the initial size.

Specify the Maximum size.

Remember you can specify as much as you want. 1024-2048 should be enough for any system.

Click on “Set” & then “OK”.

System will notify that you need to restart. Click “OK”.

Save all your work & close all the windows as the system will now restart.

Now click on “Apply” & then again on “OK”.

Now system will ask you to restart now. Click on “Restart Now”.

Still can’t understand how to do it watch this video.

Some Precautions & Notes:

This tutorial only applies to Windows Operating System.

By default windows is smart enough to adjust the Virtual Memory of your system. Use this tutorial if you require extra memory.

When specifying the initial and maximum size, allot the space according to your disk size. Generally 1024-2048 is enough for any system.

Such as opening the same websites daily by completely typing their domain name again and again may irritate you. Here is a short firefox trick which can open your daily visited websites with just two clicks.

This feature comes inbuilt in Firefox but has not gained popularity yet. Many people still don’t know about this and that is why we have written this post. Additionally starting the YDT podcast today as promised by us a month back, there is a video below do check it out.

How to quickly open multiple tabs?
Just follow the simple steps below or watch the video at the bottom of this post:

Create a new folder in Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox.

Create bookmarks of the sites you want to use on daily basis.

Now just click on that folder & then click on “Open all in Tabs”.

That’s it, now see the magic!

Keeping our promise, here is the first podcast ever from Yogtec’s Digital Technology. The first one is quite small but still it is quite useful. It has no sound just a plain trick to speed up your daily work.

We will continuously bring more videos for you. Your comments to our first podcast are really appreciated.

Are you thinking of buying a new mouse because your current mouse is very sticky or it doesn’t work properly? Is your mouse not moving properly?

Now no need to get annoyed. Consider reading this article and watching the simple video before purchasing a new mouse. Just get a screw driver and clean your mouse in seconds.

Things Required :

Screw Driver

A clean dry cloth

A glass cleaning solution or water

How to clean your mouse?
The Ball Mouse:
Open the back lid of your mouse which is generally round in shape, by just twisting its upper cap in the direction mentioned on the cap. Now take the ball out and wipe it properly with a normal glass cleaning solution or water may also go, then keep it aside. Now have a look at two tiny rods (rollers) inside. A thin layer of dirt covers the rollers in the circular shape. Gently cut the layer with the screw driver and take it out. Finally get a neat and clean cloth, spray a solution on the CLOTH. [TIP: Never spray the solution inside mouse.] Now take the wet side of cloth and clean the inner portion of mouse. Now dry it with the dry side of the cloth. Finally place the ball inside the mouse and close the lid. Enjoy smoother experience of your mouse.

Laser (Optical) Mouse:
The laser mouse is simple to clean but care must be taken to clean Optical Mouse. Take a general glass cleaning solution or water may also go. Spray the liquid on cloth and gently wipe the lower portion of the mouse with the wet side of cloth. Take special care that liquid does not go inside the mouse. There are four corners raised in some optical mouse. Clean them properly and get the dirt out of them. Now dry the lower portion of the mouse with a dry cloth by wiping it gently.

I hope you must have got some idea on cleaning your mouse. If you still can’t manage to clean your mouse this video from videojug may help you.

SOME TIPS TO KEEP YOUR MOUSE CLEAN AND WORKING:

Always use the mouse on a clean mouse pad.

Clean the mouse pad daily before using the computer.

Perform a check that if dirt has gathered in your mouse, at least once a month.

If dirt is found clean them properly using the above methods.

SOME POINTS TI KEEP IN MIND WHILE CLEANING THE MOUSE:

Never spray the liquid directly into the mouse.

Before cleaning the mouse, check if your screw driver is cleaned properly.

During cleaning the ball mouse try to get the dirt out of the mouse. Don’t let it fall inside.

After cleaning with wet cloth, always use a dry cloth to dry it.

Yes because i think there is no one to do this $600 crushing act. But TechBlend did it. Its the real iPhone and its being blended. Ah what to say about this craziest act ever seen. The thing you are about to watch will make your heart feel go throb.

OK before watching anything close your eyes and imagine you just got a new Apple iPhone for $600. You just opened it and got it out of the box. After few hours you went to make a shake for yourself. You are so excited and you can’t leave that thing alone for a single second. You took it along to the kitchen and mistakenly you drop that $600 thing in your running blender. Now imagine what will happen NEXT?

Can’t Imagine? Then See it.

Flash has been continuously growing up like anything in this technology world. After a long success of Microsoft PowerPoint, some competitors have finally managed to make some cool online presentation creators!

Spresent is a web utility which help us create flash presentations quickly. You have a lot of options similar to Microsoft PowerPoint. It lets you create animated words, pictures, charts, tables and many more things.

You can also upload your music or pictures and add it to your presentations. All the files are uploaded on Spresent server only.

Also it has a similar interface to that of windows. Its environment is very friendly and easy to operate.

After creating the presentation, it gives you an online link to that presentation and also lets you embed it in any page on web. You may even print your creation.

I have created a tutorial for Digital Technology Newbies using Spresent. Check it out!
Note:The presentation may not load in some feed readers. Please go to blog web page to view the presentation.
